I am the mother of three boys who are now in their 20s. After my first child was born by a caesarian section under general anaesthetic, I decided to remove myself from mainstream care and I gave birth to my next two sons naturally at home in water. In order to do this, I had to do a lot of research, and therefore I gained a huge insight into the perinatal period. I learnt care for my babies and care for me and my husband on my own terms.
I have developed very effective counselling skills over my 20-year career as a homeopath and addiction counsellor. Although I am no longer a practising homeopath, I have learned and practised many, many psychotherapeutic tools which have helped and continue to help a wide variety of people in a wide variety of situations. Whatever is worrying any member of the family, from toddlers to teenagers to grandparents, I can provide intelligent, insightful and effective counselling support.
I can help adults who have coping habits, and teenagers who are being attracted to drugs and drinking. Before becoming a teacher, I specialised in addiction therapy, working in mainstream addiction services, and gaining an MSc in Integrated Healthcare, where I studied the effectiveness of complementary therapies in treating alcohol dependency. I have worked with some very hard to reach people, including homeless adults, with the goal of helping them to steer back to a more stable life. I developed a thorough understanding of the mechanisms of addiction and developed psychotherapeutic tools to help overcome cravings and restore balance.
Since becoming a teacher, I have taught many children with special educational needs. I am recognised as an SEN mentor by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council. I am working with autistic children and their parents, and developing my knowledge of autism and how it effects children and families.
Looking after babies is simple in theory, but hard in practice. And often, mothers are disempowered by their experiences of childbirth, or by the fact that they are isolated from a community of supportive women - friends or family members. Crying babies, sleep, bonding, colic, parental exhaustion and external demands: I aim to support young parents in providing for their baby in the most natural, stress-free and loving way possible.
Because I have worked with so many different people, with so many different problems, I am a bullet-proof ally for the whole family. I can broker peace-deals between warring partners or children, help grandparents to integrate, and help any member of the family who feels they cannot communicate and get their needs met. I am tactful and diplomatic, professional with strong personal boundaries, completely non-judgemental and non-invasive. We do things your way at your pace in the way that makes sense to you.
